국회 ― 더불어민주당 전현희 최고위원은 25일 국회에서 열린 제109차 최고위원회의 모두발언을 통해 한덕수 국무총리 겸 대통령 권한대행이 최근 국회 본회의에서 진행한 시정연설과 한미 통상 협상을 강도 높게 비판했다. 그는 이를 “대국민 기만쇼”라고 규정하며, “대권 도전의 전리품을 챙기기 위한 연출된 연설”이라고 평가했다.

그는 “한미 통상 협상은 차기 정부가 진행해야 하며, 더 이상의 졸속 합의는 안 된다”고 강조하며, “협상과 추경 모두 자신의 대권 도전 수단으로 삼은 한덕수 대행은 즉각 물러나야 한다”고 주장했다. 또한 “대선에 출마할 사람이 아니라, 내란 공범으로 법정에 서야 할 인물”이라며 강도 높은 발언을 이어갔다.

Democratic Party Supreme Council Member Jeon Hyun-hee strongly criticized Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo during a party meeting on April 25(KST), accusing him of using both the recent supplementary budget speech and Korea-U.S. trade negotiations as tools for his presidential ambitions.
Jeon labeled Han’s address to the National Assembly a “deceptive performance,” claiming it was more of a campaign speech than a fiscal report. She pointed out that Han skipped the regular Q&A session with lawmakers but appeared in the chamber solely to deliver a prepared speech. “This behavior mirrors that of former President Yoon Suk Yeol—evasive and self-serving,” she said.
Focusing on international trade, Jeon highlighted U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s remarks expressing satisfaction with the initial Korea-U.S. talks and the expectation of a swift agreement. She accused Han of treating the negotiation process as a personal political prize. “The U.S. is leveraging Han’s presidential ambitions to extract greater concessions from Korea,” she said.
Jeon warned that any rushed agreement must be halted and insisted such negotiations be left to the next administration. “Han must resign immediately. This is not a presidential campaign—he should be facing trial for insurrection,” she added.
She also condemned the recent indictment of former President Moon Jae-in, calling it the pinnacle of political interference by the prosecution. “This is a last-ditch loyalty pledge to a dictatorial regime, designed to distract from growing public outrage,” she asserted.

국회 ― 더불어민주당 전현희 최고위원은 23일 국회에서 열린 제108차 최고위원회의에서 한덕수 국무총리 권한대행의 대선 출마 움직임과 미국과의 통상 협상 강행 시도를 강하게 비판하며, 이를 “매국 행위”로 규정했다.
전현희 최고위원은 “40일밖에 남지 않은 대행 정부가 국운이 걸린 통상 협상을 추진하고 있다”며 “대통령이 부재한 상황에서 협상 절차를 연기해야 할 정당한 이유가 있다”고 강조했다. 그는 한 대행이 이를 강행하려는 의도는 “국가 미래를 볼모로 삼아 사전 선거운동을 벌이려는 것”이라고 주장했다.

또한 전 최고위원은 공무원들에게 “불법적 명령에 복종하지 말라”고 촉구했다. 그는 “공무원 행동강령 제4조에 따르면 상급자의 부당한 지시에는 따르지 않아야 한다”며 “윤석열의 내란에 맞선 박정훈 대령처럼 정의를 따르라”고 말했다.
끝으로 그는 “한덕수 대행이 쌓은 탄핵 마일리지는 이미 한도를 초과했다”며, 민주당은 대행의 월권과 범죄 행위에 대해 단호히 대응하겠다고 밝혔다.

Jeon Hyun-heui, a senior leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party (더불어민주당, Democratic Party of Korea), issued a scathing denunciation of Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo’s reported plans to pursue a major trade agreement with the United States, likening the move to historical acts of national betrayal. Speaking during the party’s 108th Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Jeon warned that pushing through such talks with only 40 days left in the caretaker government’s tenure amounted to "selling out the country."
Labeling the maneuver a “traitorous act,” Jeon argued that the absence of a sitting president constituted a legitimate basis to delay negotiations. “The acting government is rushing into trade talks that will shape the future of this country, all while the presidency is vacant,” she said. “This isn’t diplomacy—it’s pre-campaigning disguised as statecraft.”
Jeon accused top economic officials—Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok and Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun—of enabling Han’s rumored presidential ambitions. “They’ve become his campaign envoys,” she said, warning that their involvement in hasty trade decisions could earn them a place in history as “modern-day Eulsa traitors”—a reference to the infamous 1905 pact in which five Korean ministers were condemned for signing away sovereignty to Japan.
The "Eulsa Ojeok" (을사오적) — known in English as the "Five Eulsa Traitors" refers to five Korean officials who, in 1905, signed the Eulsa Treaty (also known as the Japan-Korea Protectorate Treaty) under pressure from Imperial Japan, effectively surrendering Korea’s diplomatic sovereignty and paving the way for colonization. These five officials were widely condemned as traitors, both at the time and in historical memory, for their role in what is seen as the betrayal of the nation.
She further alleged that a special team had been established within the Prime Minister’s Office to support Han’s wife, suggesting the office was being transformed into a de facto campaign headquarters. “If true, this is nothing less than abuse of power,” Jeon charged.
In an unusually direct appeal to civil servants, Jeon urged them to resist unlawful orders. “Under Article 4 of the Public Official Code of Conduct, no one is obligated to follow improper instructions,” she said. “Be like Colonel Park Jung-hoon, who stood against Yoon Suk-yeol’s constitutional violations—choose justice.”
Jeon concluded by stating that Han’s “impeachment mileage has already exceeded its limit,” and pledged that the Democratic Party would respond forcefully to any overreach or criminal behavior by the acting government.

In a remarkable political comeback, Jeon Hyun-heui, a dentist-turned-lawyer-turned-legislator, has returned to South Korea’s National Assembly for her third term, this time representing Seoul's Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu districts. Following her April 2024 general election victory, she was elected to the leadership of the Democratic Party (더불어민주당, Democratic Party of Korea) in August, solidifying her standing as a key player in the party’s upper echelons.
Born in 1964 in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, Jeon graduated from Seoul National University’s dental school before passing the bar exam in 1996—becoming South Korea’s first dentist-turned-lawyer. Her legal career gained prominence after she led a successful class-action lawsuit against pharmaceutical giant GC Green Cross over hemophilia drug-related HIV infections.
Jeon first entered politics in 2008 through a proportional representation seat with the United Democratic Party, a predecessor of the current Democratic Party. She later carved out a reputation as a progressive force in Seoul’s Gangnam-gu Eul district, securing a landmark victory in the 2016 general election in a traditionally conservative stronghold—marking the Democratic Party’s first win there in 24 years. Returning to electoral politics in 2024, Jeon initially registered as a candidate in the prestigious Jongno district but was later assigned to Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu by party leadership. Backed by a unified progressive front, she defeated People Power Party candidate Yoon Hee-sook by a 5.23 percentage point margin.
Since re-entering the Assembly, Jeon has taken on a suite of party roles, including chairing the committees on political violence countermeasures, whistleblower protection, and judicial reform. Her rise has not been without friction; in October 2024, she engaged in a rare public spat with fellow lawmaker Jung Cheong-rae, highlighting persistent factional divides within the party.
